National Apprenticeship Week at United Living

 · Posted in News

Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity for people to earn while they learn, gaining valuable skills and knowledge of a particular job role while working towards nationally recognised qualifications. These schemes provide those training with a career boost and can also bring fresh and rising talent into a given industry.

United Living are fully committed to an in depth programme of training and qualifications, and offer a wide variety of apprenticeships with many inspiring success stories. Below you will find a small selection of comments from current apprentices about the courses they are on and how they are finding them.

Antony Golding, who has recently completed a Level 4 in Site Management, said: “Over the past year I have been with United Living and there has never been a day like the one before and I love it! During this past year carrying out my apprenticeship I feel I have grown as a person, developing my knowledge of the construction industry which has allowed me to have confidence to begin managing more and more of the project. I would have to admit I owe a lot of my success to the continued support and help from the team here, who were always approachable for help.”

Francesca Lausi joined United Living North as an Apprentice Administrator in October 2017. Based in Nottingham, she has been enjoying great success within the role, and was shortlisted for Apprentice of the Year at the Building Communities Awards 2019.

Francesca said: “United Living offer amazing opportunities for apprentices and I’ve loved taking advantage of these. I’ve been made to feel like a valued member of the team and I’ve learnt a huge amount about the industry as well as business skills and health and safety. It’s great to see that UL are offering multiple training courses and online learning as well as working with the amazing team. Thanks to UL’s in depth developments plans specifically for apprentices I’ve been able to track my own progress with the support of my line manager. A big thanks to all members of UL who have supported me!”

Joseph March, Andrew White-Riley and Alex Sinclair are all Apprentice Quantity Surveyors based at different locations nationwide.

Joseph said: “I feel as though I am a full member and I am actually doing a job that contributes to the overall project and do not feel like I am watching from the side lines and I love this aspect of United Living and the construction industry. Every day is something new and I am learning new skills all the time and my confidence supported by my colleagues. So if you have the chance grab it with both hands and go for it.”

Andrew commented: “It’s been a good experience. You can apply skills in the real world and the support on offer is great.”

Alex said: “A valuable experience, as United Living are welcoming and friendly. I feel part of a valued team which makes it all worthwhile.”

It is not just news of people currently on or finishing their apprenticeship journey however. Damon Potter has recently started a four year degree apprenticeship through the Open University.

Damon said: “I have just started a degree apprenticeship in Digital & Technology Solutions. This is a four year work based learning degree, with the first two years covering a wide range of IT and technology subjects and the final two years will be geared towards my chosen specialism, Cybersecurity. The structure of the apprenticeship is great as it allows me to implement the technical and personal skills I have acquired directly into my everyday work environment.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me to further my career development with United Living and gain the skills required to succeed in a rapidly expanding area of IT.”

Sadia Ahmed, Early Careers Manager, said: “Apprenticeships are a great way to upskill the workforce while bringing fresh talent into the business. It gives fresh recruits the opportunity to earn and learn while honing their skills and gaining invaluable experience! Apprenticeships are available for anyone from the age of 16 and there is no upper age limit.
