Workshop held to encourage young girls into construction
Students at Pimlico Academy were recently visited by seven women working within construction to encourage young girls to consider a career within the industry.
Highlighting construction as an exciting career path for the next generation is vital for the industry to keep on growing. Increasing the diversity within it is key, and national contractor United Living are working hard to continually promote the roles of women in the industry.
As part of this ongoing work, this workshop was held with Construction Youth Trust at Pimlico Academy. Given the title of ‘Not Just for Boys’, the workshop provided opportunity for breaking down misconceptions by showing that equal opportunities for all are available.
Jacqueline Noon, Social Value Manager for United Living South, said: “Attending such events as these workshops to educate young people of the roles within construction are always extremely worthwhile and rewarding. When you ask students what they think of when asked of construction quite often stereotypes come up and they are pleasantly surprised when you reveal that there are actually a wide variety of career paths within the industry, and that there are more roles to play a part in than just being on a building site.”
“It is a mission of ours to help inform young women of the incredible careers they can embark upon within construction, and the feedback we receive from workshops, school talks and social events is very positive.”
