An opening event marking the completion of 15 new affordable homes in Little Stoke, Bristol has taken place.

The development, situated within a cul-de-sac off Collins Avenue, has been named Sharon Ubank Close after a local resident and historian who worked within the community. Residents and family gathered on Friday, 27th September to mark the occasion and to reflect on her life and legacy.

National contractor United Living worked on behalf of housing association Bromford to replace ten old and vacant properties with the new contemporary development, which is a mixture of two and three bedroom homes and one and two bedroom flats.

Jason Ivens, Site Manager at United Living said: “I am very proud of the exceptional new affordable homes that have been created in Collins Avenue. United Living aim to leave a legacy in whichever community they work in, and it is hoped that through the employment, skills and training provided through this project that this will be felt for generations to come.”

Alice Phillips, Project Manager at Bromford said: “We’re delighted to have completed this project ahead of schedule. We’d like to thank all of the neighbours for their patience and understanding while we’ve carried out the work. There is a real need for more affordable housing across South Gloucestershire and these new homes will help local people to stay living in the area rather than forced to move elsewhere. And it was lovely to welcome members of Sharon’s family to the opening, along with our development partners and new residents, who I’m sure will be very happy in their new homes.”
