Queen Elizabeth II opens Rhodes Moorhouse Court

 · Posted in News

Queen Elizabeth II has officially opened a new development of 68 new homes for the ex-service community in Morden.

The project, delivered by United Living on behalf of Haig Housing Trust, is part of Rhodes Moorhouse Court and has seen collaboration with the surrounding community, local schools and colleges.

Her Majesty is a Patron of Haig Housing and a section of the new development is named after her, as Queen Elizabeth Terrace.

Steve Carden, Managing Director of Construction South at United Living, said “We are extremely honoured to have undertaken this tremendous project for the Haig Trust. The collaborative nature in which the scheme has been undertaken by all parties with the full engagement of the local community is testament to the people involved.”

Farhan Mohamed, Senior Site Manager at United Living, said: “Rhodes Moorhouse Court is a very special project for United Living. Right from the start our project delivery team worked very closely with our neighbours and the local schools and colleges. We had open days and coffee mornings with the local residents, installed a new patio for elderly residents, organised visits to site for the local school kids, and gave on site work placements to over 50 students from Merton and Carshalton College.

“Through these and other activities throughout the phase of the project we have built genuine relationships with the community and are proud to have delivered a legacy project.” James Richardson MBE, Chief Executive Haig Housing Trust, said: “Haig Housing Trust is extremely proud and grateful that Her Majesty The Queen agreed to open our Centenary Development of 68 new homes on Friday 11 October, 2019 in Morden, South West London. This is the culmination of five years of hard work and showcases Haig Housing’s support of UK Veterans.”

The new properties are a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom flats and 3-4 bedroom family houses and will help reduce the strain on affordable home availability.
