United Living support the Better Learners, Better Workers programme
Better Learners, Better Workers is an employer-led programme that provides young people with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they will need to be successful in the world of work.
Hannah Prankett, Business Development Coordinator at United Living North, attended a session at Sheffield Park Academy to support the learning of its students and to help promote a career within construction.
Hannah said: “I am a Business Champion for the Better Learners, Better Workers programme which is ran by Sheffield City Council. I am working with a group of Year 10 students from Sheffield Park Academy who are all interested in construction.
“The first workshop had the group design a housing estate and they were asked to think about how they would house older people, single people and families as well as decide how to make best use of the green spaces.
“They worked together really well and each had a role to play; project manager, 2 x design managers, environmental manager and transportation expert. This workshop used a variety of skills that apply to the construction industry and the team really enjoyed it.”
United Living are working closely with Sheffield City Council on a number of projects which include the full design and construction of new build specialist accommodation on two sites; Adlington Road and Wordsworth Road as well as various refurbishment projects.
