United Living celebrates topping out ceremony for £50m “Oldfield Wharf” build to rent neighbourhood

United Living New Homes (“ULNH”), Ridgeback Group and I Live Around (ila) attended a topping out ceremony on 14 September to celebrate the significant milestone for the delivery of 296 new Build to Rent (“BTR”) homes in Salford.

Representatives including Caroline Lewis, Managing Director, United Living New Homes, Seamus Keane, Development Director, Ridgeback Group & Steve McCarthy, Managing Director, ila attended the topping out ceremony. The event was a testament to their teamwork and marked a significant milestone in the project’s journey towards completion.

Contractor ULNH is working closely with developer Ridgeback Group & operator ila to construct a mixture of 296 one-and-two-bedroom BTR homes, including 275 residential apartments, 11 townhouses, and 10 duplexes across the three connected blocks. Located on a brownfield site in the heart of Salford city centre, the BTR scheme will provide much-needed, high-quality homes to the area.

The scheme includes ground and 1st floor amenity space, parking facilities, and podium-level landscaping, as well as low-carbon infrastructure such as solar panels and electric vehicle charging points. This low-carbon infrastructure will contribute to the sustainability of the development and help Salford City Council achieve its vision of becoming a carbon-neutral city by 2038. The development is scheduled to be fully completed in Autumn 2024.

Caroline Lewis, Managing Director, United Living New Homes, commented: “We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone at the Oldfield Wharf development project in Salford. This topping out event presented an opportunity to celebrate the truly collaborative approach all parties have taken in helping to bring this landmark project to fruition.

“We look forward to continuing to work together with our partners, Ridgeback and ila, next year to help deliver this project to a high standard.”

Seamus Keane, Development Director, Ridgeback Group, commented: “We are delighted with the progress United Living and the wider team have achieved in reaching this milestone. It is a testament to all the hard work by the project team, the challenges we have collectively overcome and moves us closer to delivering 296 new homes for our residents, as part of the wider Salford community.”

Steve McCarthy, Manging Director, ila, commented: “The topping out ceremony at this Neighbourhood marks a momentous occasion, underscoring the dedication and teamwork behind this project. At Oldfield Wharf, we’re not just creating apartments for rent; we’re shaping an exceptional living experience and aspire to become an integral part of the vibrant Salford community. We can’t wait to welcome residents to their new homes in Autumn 2024.”
