The upgrades to Cadent’s gas infrastructure will ensure a safe and reliable gas flow in the North West

United Living Group, the provider of infrastructure, affordable housing, property services, and telecoms, is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, United Living Infrastructure Services (ULIS), has won two contracts with Cadent, the UK’s biggest gas distribution network. The contracts are worth £3 and £2 million.

Under this partnership, ULIS has been entrusted with delivering capacity upgrade works to two key Above Ground Installations (AGIs) within Cadent’s network: the Ashton Under-Lyne and Longridge AGIs. Work includes building a new Pressure Reduction Station (PRS), and the decommissioning and demolition of old AGIs and all connections.

ULIS has designed the new PRS to integrate seamlessly into Cadent’s existing infrastructure, allowing for parallel construction, commissioning, and operation within the existing site. This approach ensures uninterrupted gas flow before the decommissioning and demolition of old facilities.

These enhancements form part of Cadent’s long-term development plan and aim to reinforce and extend the capacity of its networks to meet the growing demand for critical energy resources. The works are essential to ensuring a safe and reliable gas flow and are vital to ensuring the network remains fit for purpose for future generations.

Mark Thornton, Head of Project Delivery, Cadent, said:

“Cadent’s job is to ensure the safe distribution of gas to millions of homes, as well as schools, hospitals, offices and other buildings. It’s essential for keeping people warm and enabling industrial processes. While most of our network is underground, under your feet, we also have hundreds of above-ground stations that form part of this critical energy system.

“The work that is taking place at Ashton and Longridge AGIs is part of an investment profile to upgrade and increase capacity, both for customers we have now and those we’ll have in the future – as greener gas options enter the gas network. We are delighted to award this contract to ULIS, a company which delivers to the high standards and values we uphold here at Cadent.”

Conor Bray, Managing Director at United Living Infrastructure Services, commented:

“We look forward to undertaking these works and building on our long-term relationship with Cadent to help deliver a gas network fit for the future.

“We’re proud to work with the UK’s major gas transmission owner-operators, and these contract wins further underscore our reputation as a trusted partner in delivering critical energy infrastructure to meet the needs of their customers and the communities they operate in.”
