United Living Connected, in collaboration with AWTG, the lead partner for the project, is pleased to announce the award of a significant contract to develop the Borderlands 5G Innovation Region.
The Borderlands 5G Innovation Region programme is an ambitious initiative led by Connecting Cumbria on behalf of the Borderlands Partnership, which brings together five councils: Cumberland, Dumfries and Galloway, Northumberland, Scottish Borders, and Westmorland and Furness. This cross-border collaboration is aimed at harnessing the power of 5G technology to drive innovation, boost digital connectivity, and unlock economic potential across the region
This network will enhance connectivity across key tourist destinations within the Borderlands boundary, promoting digital growth and innovation in the region. This project will see the deployment of 5G network services aimed at connecting smart devices in important locations. This enhanced connectivity will provide a boost to local communities, businesses, and visitors by supporting smarter, more efficient services.
James Parker, Private Network Lead (Head of PMO) at United Living Connected, commented on the project:
“We are thrilled to partner with AWTG to deliver comprehensive Acquisition, Design, Construction, and integration services for this pivotal initiative. Our work will drive positive outcomes for the local community and businesses at key sites throughout the Borderlands.”
The project is currently underway, with the installation of site infrastructure scheduled for completion by February 2025.
