United Living were appointed to design and build a bespoke, six-storey block with 139 one and two bedroom apartments for private rent, in Milton Keynes.
Building construction at Silbury Boulevard comprised of the demolition of two office buildings, installation of concrete pad foundations, reinforced concrete masonry, and construction of semi basements with a steel frame superstructure.
We created 9 different apartment layouts to suit individuals, couples and small families with a high specification finish featuring an open plan kitchen and lounge area. The larger apartments have a bedroom on either side of the living space, each with en-suite facilities. Beneath the 6 floors of the residential block are two floors of semi basement car parking, as well as two commercial units on the ground floor.
We reduced the partition ceiling and glazing specification to get an acoustic optimum db reduction for the end user. The unique design of the Juliet balconies were fixed as an add on to the door frame, creating an aesthetically pleasing look. This saved time on the original planned install.
On December 21st 2018 the following came into effect (LABC Guidance December 2018). Commencements on in-scope buildings after 21st February 2019 needed to be redesigned with materials with a European classification of A2-s1.
As a consequence of that, the project team were constantly monitoring Part B Changes with Key Stakeholders (LABC, Building Control) to ensure compliance was achieved. The project team redesigned the façade system to a non-combustible system.
The apartment block was handed over to Grainger PLC, Britain’s largest PRS landlord in March 2020.
