Local apprentices help create 45 new homes in Islington
Three apprentices all from the London Borough of Islington have helped to complete a housing project at Dalmeny Avenue, which brings 45 brand new contemporary homes to the market.
The £10.3 million development has been delivered by United Living, on behalf of Southern Housing Group. It comprises a mix of tenures, with the majority of apartments available for private sale, four properties available for social rent, and two for shared ownership.
As part of United Living’s Apprentice Programme run by Joe Brennan Training (JBT), two apprentices took up painting and decorating, and the other apprentice mastered carpentry skills. They received their on-site training under the direct supervision of United Living’s subcontractors A&B painters and Flynn Carpentry.
Denise Brennan, director at JBT, said: “These three apprentices have had a valuable opportunity to work on a construction site and gain valuable skills for their future careers. Their hard work is paying off, with one of the participants having been taken on for a permanent role with Flynn Carpentry and another since joining the NHS to begin full-time employment. The third apprentice is continuing her training with us before she sets out on her chosen career pathway in construction.”
Nigel, the apprentice now working with Flynn Carpentry, said: “it was a fabulous time, the site was great and the management team were a good bunch of people who operated well; I gained a lot from this experience.”
Cosmin Balogh, assistant quantity surveyor at United Living, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the new high-quality homes that we’ve created at Dalmeny Avenue. It has been a great project to be involved in and it’s rewarding to see how the apprentices have contributed towards such a stand out development for the area.”
Construction at Dalmeny Avenue has been further complemented by a number of green initiatives with the development of six winter gardens and incentives for employees working on the site to cycle to and from the development each day.
