Hatfield Close community centre refurbished
A disused community centre in Lewisham has been given a new lease of life by national contractor United Living.
The building required some major refurbishment to bring it back into use, and the work carried out includes full repair of WC leaks, replacement of flooring and decoration.
As a result of the work the centre is able to be used by residents again, providing a centrally located space for local agencies whose focus is to enhance the community via skills and training. New Cross Gate (NXG) Trust will be looking after the premises and will be running all support offered for residents.
Plans are currently in place for employment advice and guidance on a 1:1 basis for residents looking to get back into work, providing intensive support around CV preparation, job applications and interview techniques. An IT trainer delivering certificated group classes in computer programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as help on the internet use and cyber safety is also available.
Jacqueline Noon, Social Value Manager for United Living South, said: “Providing a local revamped space for the residents has enabled us to further support the community by giving them a possible positive outlook for their future via skills and training. We are proud to give back to the residents of Lewisham and look forward to seeing how the facility is used now that it is operational again.”
The work follows on from recent community boosting activities with Lewisham Homes, including restoring overgrown residential gardens and providing full refurbishment for Winslade Estate Cyber Centre.
