Construction of Lots Waterside Apartments completes
A logistically challenging development of 112 new affordable homes along the Chelsea Waterfront has completed, with co-operation between contractors aiding construction in an area with limited space and restrictions.
The challenges that came with the delivery of a prestigious construction project in the heart of Chelsea were met by national contractor United Living, who used their expertise and experience from other projects nationwide to tackle them head on.
Managing deliveries in a tight space around other construction projects meant that such activities had to be tightly planned and operated. This is normal for projects in Central London, but this was elevated by the main access area by the development having a weight restriction of 20 tonnes. This meant that a large number of deliveries and the general movement of materials had to go via another entrance point which passed by another construction site, adding to the logistical challenge.
To overcome this, a DataScope system was implemented to allow timely deliveries and close co-operation with Ardmore was carried out with monthly meetings to discuss this plan of action. With the project completed, this close team work has paid off with the development giving the opportunity for people to live along the Chelsea Waterfront via either discount market sale or social rent.
Martin McManamon, Operations Manager at United Living, said: “We are delighted to complete construction of 112 high quality and modern affordable homes along the Chelsea Waterfront. Of the 112 units constructed, 84 are for a shared equity programme and 28 for social rent, and we are proud to have provided these homes in the heart of London.” Within the properties there are 43 different internal designs, giving unique character and style to each dwelling. With such a wide range of décor, this gives the building an even stronger appeal for future residents and has given United Living the opportunity to be more creative with the interior designs, both structurally and cosmetically.
Tim Seward, Director of Sales for Clarion Housing said: “At Clarion we understand that in order to meet the housing crisis we need to provide a wide variety of housing solutions and our approach must be tailored to meet the needs of the local area.
“Lots Waterside Apartments offers West Londoners who are struggling to buy outright an affordable route into homeownership. This development will undoubtedly be popular due to the high specification of the homes and its desirable location.”
The development is situated opposite the disused Lots Road Power Station, and surrounded by the Chelsea Harbour Marina, luxury apartments, pubs, shops and stunning views of London.
This project has been constructed on behalf of Hutchison Property Group, with Clarion Housing Group delivering the affordable homes.
