United Living Apprentices visited their schools and colleges during National Apprenticeship Week

During National Apprentice Week, United Living apprentices went back to their schools and colleges to promote their own experiences and discuss with students what is available and involved in doing an apprenticeship. United Living apprentice quantity surveyor, Charlie Bishop went back to Wilmington Academy to talk to students there about working in construction.

Joel Newsum, Director of Learning at Wilmington Academy, said: “Thanks for coming in today. Charlie is a credit to the Academy and to his employers, United Living. I think you made a great case for the apprenticeship route and a number of the students that hadn’t been considering this route are now keen to explore it further.”

Apprentice quantity surveyor, Alex Sinclair went back to London South East College.

Dan Bogle from the college said: “Thank you again for coming in, the presentation Alex gave was well prepared and excellent. The students really enjoyed it and as a result I think quite a few of them are interested in an apprenticeship. “I hope that you will be able to come back in the future and do something similar and that we can continue to keep in contact with you and United Living.”

Andrew White-Riley, apprentice quantity surveyor, said: “The school visit went well, I had two different sessions with students from different courses, the first being level 3 business students and the second being a mixture of A-level students and a few GCSE level students.”

Stephen Baker, Early Careers Manager, said: “There are no better advocates of apprenticeships than people that are already doing one so having our apprentices out there promoting apprenticeships, United Living and the construction industry is fantastic. The feedback we have received from the apprentices and the schools or colleges has been excellent. The highlight for me was speaking to the apprentices after and hearing they have reflected on how they have developed since joining us, realising they have gained skills, knowledge and behaviours that mean they are already a valued member of the team.”
