A total of 104 homes have been provided following demolition works, design and build in Hackney. The Wenlock Scheme forms site one of the project with a total of 74 residential apartments; 68 for private sale, six for shared ownership and space for 19 two-storey luxury penthouse apartments. The Brewery site, known as site two, comprises of 30 units including; five social rented properties, 16 affordable rent and nine apartments for shared ownership.
The brewery site faced several challenges as a direct consequence of being surrounded by roads on all four sides, with the building also occupying the whole of the site footprint. The team overcame this challenge by using ‘just in time’ deliveries and storing bricks inside the basement.
The project has reaped several benefits including; a vertical panel decorated as a mural at site one to, reflect upon the sites history with the Blitz, an electronic door entry system allowing the residents to view visitors through a camera, and linked building management systems meaning recorded incidents are recognised in both buildings.
