United Living will host a Clean in The Community event with Broxtowe Council as part of its national programme of events for Housing Day 2015.

The event will take place at Manor Road, Eastwood between 10.30am to 1.30pm on Wednesday 18 November. It will complement the efforts of Broxtowe Borough Council’s Housing Team who will be taking over the Council’s social media accounts throughout the day, to give a unique insight into their day to day activities.

Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Susan Bagshaw will join forces with residents, Council employees, United Living representatives and partners to clean up the neighbourhood at the event.

Skips will be available on the day for residents to dispose of household and garden waste and a team of Caretakers and Housing Officers will help residents move and dispose of bulky items.

A special swap-shop will also be on offer for residents to exchange or donate unwanted items such as household furniture and encourage recycling.

Richard Baker, director of United Living said: “It is great for United Living to work alongside Broxtowe Council with this community clean up event. It symbolises the partnering approach the team has whilst helping the local area and community remain a place where people are proud to live.”

During the day, followers of Broxtowe Council’s Facebook and Twitter accounts (@broxtowebc) will also be able to see what the Council’s Housing Team do, from Housing Repairs and supporting older residents in the Retirement Living Schemes to planning and implementing the Council’s Housing Strategy.

This year’s housing day takes place on Wednesday 18 November and will be part of the National Housing Federation’s (NHF) Community Impact Week from 16-22 November. It is pitched as an opportunity to challenge the negative portrayal of housing by the media and to celebrate the work of social landlords.

“The Housing Team work incredibly hard every day to ensure our residents are happy and comfortable in their homes and often their roles involve tasks that local people may not realise they do. National Housing Day is a great opportunity to celebrate Broxtowe and I encourage residents to get involved by following on Twitter and Facebook on the day,” said Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Eric Kerry.

This year marks the third year of the Council’s popular Community Clean Up events which help improve the local area and generate a strong sense of community spirit.
