Construction Ambassador Training

In October of this year, United Living Wales and the South West Site Manager, Jonathan Phillips visited an Aberdare based training provider that work with 16-18 year olds. It was an opportunity for Jon, who recently completed the Construction Ambassador training to meet with young people and share his experience of Construction.

Jon was a great role model for the small group of young people there who are all considering a career in construction, but are lacking confidence or information. Jons down to earth approach and humour ensured the young people (four female, three male) were engaged fully in the session at ACT Training Skills Centre, Aberdare.

Katie Cole, CITB Advisor – South East Wales said “They related positively to the fact that Jon was from Aberdare himself and already in a Site Manager role at the age of 28. Jon painted an exciting picture of not only his day to day role working for United Living, but also shared what motivated him and why construction is a career like no other with opportunities for all. The young people asked some unexpected questions of Jon, including what car he drove and advice on what size work trousers would be required (38”)! Thanks to the staff of United Living Wales for embracing the opportunity presented by the Construction Ambassador programme. I’m sure this is just the start of your Ambassador adventure, inspiring young people to consider a career in construction!’

They ended the session supporting the young people to use the ‘Go Construct’ website so they could explore construction further.
