School visit to United Living
United Living recently hosted a visit from Southend Junior School, giving five children from the school council the opportunity to look around a building site and learn about construction and safety.
Upon arrival at the site in Wymington, the school children received an official induction from United Living’s construction team, where they learned about health and safety issues as well as codes of conduct on a typical project.
The visitors were encouraged to study some architectural drawings of the site and they were then challenged to consider how a building plan should progress safely through each phase of development.
The Rushden Road site provided the opportunity to view several properties at different stages of construction including; ground floor construction, roof truss fitting, first fix; to show the children an example of how the insides of buildings are developed and second fix; to show how bathrooms and kitchens are fitted.
Following the visit, each of the students were invited to enter a competition to produce a speed reduction road sign that will be used at the site. Each of the five representatives from the school council also received a goodie bag from United Living which included essential items for construction site managers such as a Hard Hat and Hi Viz Vest, note pads and pens.
