a positive social impact

Creating communities fit for the future

At the heart of our work lies our commitment to fostering a more sustainable, inclusive society, by leaving a positive social impact on the communities we work with across the country.

A key priority for our business is to leave a lasting legacy, aligned with the needs and desires of each community. We do this by creating impactful change, fostering economic growth and transforming as many lives as possible.

We work with community organisations, resident associations, youth groups and sheltered schemes to ensure that all voices are heard and represented.

our social value approach

Engaging with communities

We are committed to:

  • Assessing local needs and engaging stakeholders: Recognising the diverse needs and priorities of each local community, we understand that a one-size-fit-all approach isn’t good enough. Instead, we take time to thoroughly understand the needs of local residents, before developing a tailored social value plan.
  • Developing community partnerships: The length and breadth of our social value approach is designed with the interests of the community in mind. We set project objectives and targets with critical stakeholders, ensuring our projects are delivered to the best of our ability, providing a positive impact for all.
  • Leaving a lasting legacy: People are at the heart of what we do, and we look to create a lasting positive legacy in the communities in which we operate, delivering social and local economic value and improving lives. Sourcing local suppliers and employees during a project is one of the biggest ways we secure more comprehensive social and economic benefits for the community.
  • Measuring the social value: We use the National Themes Outcomes and Measures (TOMs) Framework to measure the impact of our social value activities and report our progress to our clients. However, we recognise that people measure social value differently, and we work with the communities we serve to ensure that we hear first-hand about their experience.

our strategy

Creating opportunities

Our United Living social value strategy to 2025 focuses on the three strategic themes:

  • Tackling economic inequality by promoting local skills and employment.
  • Supporting sustainable economic growth, including SMEs and social enterprises.
  • Addressing health inequality, promoting wellbeing and community integration.

providing local support

The Hope Community Project

The charity, based on the Heath Town estate, was formed in 1985 and supports people of all ages in the community. In 2017, it was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee award for voluntary service, the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK.

ULPS has worked closely with the Hope Community Project for many years, providing financial support with the community in mind, including a £10k food bank sponsorship per year for the next five years. ULPS staff also help to cook and deliver Christmas meals for local families and individuals across Wolverhampton.

ULPS has also donated equipment for the new IT suite and provided access to United Living’s E-learning platform, supporting people into work, and developing new skills. ULPS also help to facilitate family fun days throughout the summer period.

Our charity partner

As a business, we do what’s right for our people, clients and communities. It’s in our DNA. That’s why we’ve chosen Mind, the mental health charity, as our corporate charity partner.

This partnership signifies our commitment to combating the stigma surrounding mental health, as we enhance workplace initiatives and create an environment where positive mental health and wellbeing are actively supported.
